The Educational Reality of Human Life
Go, therefore, and make disciples of all the nations... Teach them to carry out everything I have commanded you. (Matthew 28:19f)
Catholic institutions and organizations have a teaching and a learning mission. While faithful to Jesus command to teach and preach the Good News, we engage in continuous reflection on the Gospel message. We recognize that education is a life-long process of development and that the Catholic faith helps to enlighten and inform reason at every stage of human life.
Catholic organizations are fully immersed in the search for truth through faith and reason. We seek truth and respect authentic human values. We also understand our responsibility to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ both within and outside the organization.
Through education, Catholic organizations pass on the values and teaching of Sacred Scripture and the Tradition of the Church. By our example, we enable people to translate learning into action.
How Do Catholic Organizations Recognize the Educational Reality of Human Life?
Ask yourself...
For Institutional Reflection
- Does our institution teach Catholic social doctrine and values? How can we do this better?
- How does our institution educate people who live on the edges of society? In what ways does our institution educate people about those who are marginalized?
- How is our organization respectful of the educational and intellectual traditions of the Catholic Church?
- How do human reason and thought inform our organizations search for truth?
- Does our organization display an openness to engage in genuine dialogue with others while we continue our mission of teaching?
- In what concrete ways does our group show respect for different cultures and religions?
- How does our institution teach people to put their faith into action?
For Personal Reflection
- Am I respectful of the educational and intellectual tradition of the Catholic Church?
- Am I open to engaging in genuine dialogue with others whose views are different from my own?
- How am I presently working to educate myself further and to continue my lifelong project of development and growth?
