The Service Reality of Human Life
As generous distributors of Gods manifold grace, put your gifts at the service of one another, each in the measure you have received. (1 Peter 4:10)
Catholic institutions and organizations exist to serve others. This is the real measure of Catholicity.
In response to the Gospel message and in fidelity to the teachings of the Catholic Church, we actively pursue peace and justice. Persons who are poor, disabled, or suffering in any way are central to our mission. They are especially sought out to be loved and served. Concern for those who are most vulnerable in society also demands that Catholic institutions and organizations strive to bring about structural changes in society and work to establish justice for all.
Employees, volunteers, students and members of Catholic organizations model the compassion of Christ to every person.
How Do Catholic Organizations Recognize the Service Reality of Human Life?
Ask yourself...
For Institutional Reflection
- How does our institution reach out to the weakest and most vulnerable members of society? How do we treat persons who are poor, disabled, homeless, marginalized?
- How does our organization serve as an advocate for those unable to speak for themselves?
- How is our institution active in striving to bring about structural changes in society that would achieve justice for the weakest and most vulnerable?
- How does our organization employees, volunteers, students, members reflect the compassion of Jesus Christ for all?
- How does our organization work toward political changes that would support and advance the values of the Catholic Church?
- Recognizing our resources, how do we make sure that the policies, practices, wages, and benefits for our employees are just and equitable?
- How does our organization actively pursue peace and justice? How can we do more in this area?
For Personal Reflection
- How do I serve as an advocate for those unable to speak for themselves?
- How do I work toward political change that would help to support and advance the values of this institution?
- How do my actions reflect the compassion of Jesus Christ for all?
