Diocesan Assistance Coordinator

Kathryn Marsh, LCSW-R, is the assistance coordinator for the Diocese of Buffalo. Ms. Marsh, who has been employed by Catholic Charities for more than 30 years and is an expert in the field of sexual abuse, will coordinate assistance for the immediate pastoral care of persons who claim to have been sexually abused as minors by clergy or other church personnel.

A native and resident of Buffalo, Ms. Marsh has been employed by Catholic Charities for 33 years where she is program coordinator of visitation programs and mediation programs. Her duties include providing a continuum of services for parents referred because of a past history of neglect, physical and/or sexual abuse trauma to their children.

A certified social worker, Ms. Marsh is also co-author of the book, "Healing for Adult Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse." She is married and has two grown children and a granddaughter.

In accepting the appointment, Ms. Marsh noted, "The role of assistance coordinator is important as it may well be the first point of contact for the reporting of complaints of sexual abuse by clergy or other Church personnel in the Diocese of Buffalo. I am committed to a timely response to victims and their families that includes assistance in obtaining professional treatment so healing can take place in a safe and confidential environment."

Ms. Marsh's appointment is part of the continuing implementation by the Diocese of Buffalo of The Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People and the Essential Norms connected with the charter that was approved by the Vatican and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops last year.
