Archbishop Timothy M. Dolan, archbishop of New York, will preside at Evening Prayer at St. Joseph Cathedral on Sunday, Nov. 8, at 4 p.m., marking the highlight of the Diocese of Buffalo’s observance of the “Year for Priests.”
Bishop Kmiec has invited all priests and deacons in the diocese to participate. He has also encouraged the laity to attend. “This is a rare opportunity for the faithful of the diocese to come together to participate in the Liturgy of the Hours, an ancient and sacred tradition of the Church,” Bishop Kmiec said. The service will include hymns, Psalms, readings from the New Testament, and Canticles taken from Scripture.
Four bishops are expected to join Bishop Kmiec at the cathedral, Bishop Edward M. Grosz, auxiliary bishop of Buffalo; Bishop Bernard J. McLaughlin, auxiliary bishop emeritus of Buffalo; Bishop Donald W. Trautman, bishop of Erie, Pa.; and Bishop James M. Wingle, bishop of St. Catharines, Ontario.
Following Evening Prayer, Archbishop Dolan and The Galasso Foundation will be honored at the annual Curé of Ars dinner at the Hyatt Regency Buffalo. The reception for the dinner begins at 5:30 p.m.
Sponsored by Christ the King Seminary, the Curé of Ars dinner honors individuals and organizations whose lives reflect the qualities of Christian dedication and services that marked the life of St. John Vianney, the parish priest of Ars, France, and patron of priests.
St. Joseph Cathedral is wheelchair accessible.
