The St. Joseph Cathedral Endowment Fund

For 150 years the Cathedral has opened wide its doors to hundreds of thousands of people from across Western New York and the globe. People of all—or of no particular—faith traditions have come to experience the Cathedral’s beauty, its liturgical and musical richness, and spiritual quietude.

As the seat of the Diocese, the Cathedral is the site of hundreds of liturgies and special events annually. Additionally, the Cathedral, the works of art it contains—stained glass windows, the world-class Hook & Hastings Organ and so many other elements represent an important patrimony of the entire diocesan community. It is essential that this magnificent edifice is carefully monitored and maintained so that it can serve the spiritual and cultural needs of generations to come.

As part of its planning, the Sesquicentennial Committee has created the St. Joseph Cathedral Endowment Fund as a vehicle to build resources that will support the activities of the Cathedral and maintain this glorious facility in perpetuity.

As with all endowments, fund principal is protected in perpetuity and annual earnings which are derived from investment performance are used to support the needs of the Cathedral. Initially, the St. Joseph Cathedral Endowment Fund will have three principal areas of focus:

  • Preservation Fund: The Cathedral is truly part of the architectural heritage of our entire community. The task of maintaining a building of this quality and scale, constructed through the methods, crafts, and skills of the old-world can be quite costly. A gift to this fund will allow us to stay ahead of the aging process so that small projects don’t become major undertakings.
  • Sacred Music Fund: The sonorous and beautiful tones of the great Hook & Hastings Centennial Organ. The pure, clear notes of chorister’s voices. Outside summer performances, classical concerts, organ recitals, choral performances - the range of music at the Cathedral is wide and varied. A gift to this fund by those who appreciate music help make it possible for us to continue presenting outstanding musical programs, both sacred and secular.
  • Operational Fund: Your gift to this fund will allow us to meet the expenses of daily life here, as well as to take advantage of unexpected opportunities to serve our diocesan community.
