First principal named for
Notre Dame Academy
Kimberly Suminski
has been selected as the first principal of Notre Dame Academy, the new
regional Catholic elementary school that will open in South Buffalo in
September. Suminski,
currently the principal of Villa Maria Academy, brings a wealth of
administrative and classroom experience to the new school. She holds a master’s of administration in
education degree and is permanently certified in school administration and
elementary education.
In addition to her
administrative background, Suminski also has
extensive experience as former Catholic elementary school teacher. In making the selection, the Principal Search
Committee said, “She knows what it takes to develop the best in Catholic
education and the important role our Catholic faith plays in the fabric of our
school. Working with the Notre Dame family, we are confident she will make it a
school that can be the start of something great for the children of South
Buffalo and West Seneca.”
Suminski’s administration
officially begins on July 1, pending approval of the Notre Dame Academy
amendment to the school charter by the New York State Board of Regents and
ratification of her selection by the Board of Trustees.
“As principal, it is
very important to me that everyone attending Notre Dame Academy feels that this
is their home away from home,” Suminski said. “The goal is for administration, faculty,
staff, parents and students to feel a shared camaraderie, and by extension,
view the Notre Dame Academy as a family.”
Suminski’s experience in Catholic elementary schools includes
SS. Peter & Paul School in Depew, St. Rose of Lima School in Buffalo and
Catholic Academy of Buffalo.
She earned an associate degree in early childhood
education from Villa Maria Academy, a bachelor of science degree in elementary
education from Medaille College and a master’s of
administration in education degree from Canisius
College.
At Villa
Maria Academy, Suminski has been the technology
coordinator, IBM Learning Village Instructor, curriculum coordinator and Middle
States Accreditation coordinator. She is
also a member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development,
Preserving Cheektowaga’s Neighborhood Committee and the Taste of Buffalo
Hospitality Committee.
