Angelic Sweets

For me, nothing says Christmas like a big plate of cookies, not just any cookie, but cookies that are considered special.  These tasty confections are only made once a year and they fill the house with such a sweet aroma that even the “Grinchiest” of holiday “humbuggers” smile uncontrollably.

You can only imagine my delight when I found out that Diane Johnson, long- time parishioner at Buffalo’s Holy Angels Parish, was going to teach Father Paul Seil how to make my all-time favorite Italian cookies!

Johnson is Father Seil’s guest for the Christmas Our Daily Bread show that will air Saturday, Dec. 9 at 6 a.m. and noon on WKBW-TV Channel 7.

Johnson didn’t stop at the chocolate cookies; she taught Father Seil how to make almond cookies as well.  These resemble thumbprint cookies but instead of being filled with jelly, she made a sweet, white frosting and topped each cookie with half of a maraschino cherry.  They looked very festive and tasted fantastic.  These quickly became Father Seil’s new favorite holiday cookie.

These delicious recipes are available at www.odbtv.org.  Before you get caught up in all the holiday hurries, mark your calendar so you remember to watch Our Daily Bread to discover what’s baking at Holy Angels Parish.
