Daybreak TV Productions wins major award for Apostle of Peace

Program told the story of Sister Karen Klimczak

Daybreak TV Productions, the television component of the Office of Communications of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo, continues to produce nationally-recognized programs and recently was honored with three awards for their efforts.

Apostle of Peace, which tells the story of Sister Karen Klimczak, SSJ, was awarded a platinum “best in show” Aurora Award, a first for Daybreak.  The half-hour special aired on WKBW-TV Channel 7 on the anniversary of Sister Karen’s death and tells of her legacy and the signs seen all over Western New York, “I leave peaceprints” and “Nonviolence begins with me.”

“This is a significant honor for the entire team and is testimony to the high quality television production that originates from Daybreak,” said Kevin A. Keenan, director of Communications for the Diocese of Buffalo.

Daybreak also won a bronze Telly Award for Our Daily Bread and an honorable mention in the 2006 Communicator Awards for the short video segments titled Food for Thought.  Father Paul D. Seil is the host of both programs.

The Aurora Awards is an international competition that recognizes excellence in film and video.  Entries come from across the United States and abroad. Programs are judged on a fixed scale of creativity, message effectiveness and technical excellence.

The Telly Awards honor very best local, regional and cable television commercials and programs, as well as the finest video and film productions.

The Communicator Awards is a national program that recognizes outstanding work in the communications field.  Entries are judged by industry professionals who look for companies and individuals whose talent exceeds a high standard of excellence and whose work is a benchmark for the industry.

Food for Thought consists of short recipes with uplifting messages that can be seen on WKBW-TV Channel 7 on AM Buffalo and PM Buffalo.  They are an offshoot of the half-hour cooking show Our Daily Bread.  Food for Thought also airs on Boston Catholic TV and local cable outlets.
