Martin Sheen narrates Daybreak documentary

Martin Sheen’s knowledge of Catholic doctrine made him an ideal choice to narrate Proving Holiness, the hour-long documentary produced by Daybreak TV Productions of the Diocese of Buffalo.  The piece explains the canonization process and is set to premiere in November 2007.

Sheen learned Catholic morals and the value of hard work at an early age. He has never lost sight of his roots and has kept his humility through all the fame and awards he has achieved. An example of this is Options Recovery, a non-profit group founded in 1997 that assists homeless, street, and marginal people in getting help with addictions. Sheen is honorary chair of this group and has donated the entire stipend from his narration on the Proving Holiness documentary to the program. “Options Recovery” also facilitates a mental health clinic and transitional housing for graduates of the program.

Many know Sheen for his role as president of the United States on the show The West Wing or for his role as Capt. Willard in the award-winning Apocalypse Now, but there is much more to the man than awards and acting. He is a man of deep convictions and conscience.

“I would basically define success in the personal contentment of having united the will of the spirit to the work of the flesh,” he told Amy Eldon in an interview for PBS’s Global Tribe television show.

It helps a small production company like Daybreak to have a recognizable and powerful voice to drive the documentary to a national and international audience. Daybreak producers said working with Sheen was an enjoyable experience. He was meticulous with pronunciation details and was very generous with his time.

Funding for this project came from a private foundation whose practice is to remain anonymous.

Daybreak is premiering the documentary on All Saints Day, November 1, at the Montante Center at Canisius College, with a broadcast date to follow. The premiere is by invitation only.
