Area Catholics to Mark Anniversary of Legalized Abortion

Bishop Edward U. Kmiec, bishop of Buffalo, will be the main celebrant at a Mass marking the observance of the 34th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade legalizing abortion.  The Mass is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 20, at 4:30 p.m. at Christ the King Church, 30 Lamarck Drive, Snyder.

The Mass, which will be signed for the hearing impaired, is sponsored by the Office of Pro-Life Activities of the Diocese of Buffalo and Christ the King Parish.

The annual March for Life will take place in Washington, D.C., on Monday, Jan. 22.  Everyone is welcome to march as a reminder of the tragedy of 34 years of legalized abortion in America.  Bishop Kmiec will celebrate Mass at 8 a.m. in the Washington Plaza Hotel followed by a breakfast with speaker Teresa Tomeo, a dynamic Christian talk show host from Detroit.

People in the diocese are encouraged to participate in a solemn observance of the Roe v. Wade anniversary by placing a candle (electric, battery-operated, or wax) in the front window of their homes at sundown on Monday, Jan. 22.  The candle serves as a reminder of all the unborn babies who have been aborted since the Supreme Court decision.
