Catholic Schools Week celebration Jan. 27 – Feb. 2

Catholic Schools Week, the annual celebration of Catholic schools and their contribution to their communities, will be held in the Diocese of Buffalo Jan. 27 through Feb. 2.  For more than three decades, the area’s Catholic schools have spent the last week of January showcasing the value and uniqueness of Catholic schools.

The 2008 theme is “Catholic Schools Light the Way,” which highlights the mission of Catholic schools to provide a faith-based education that supports the whole child academically and spiritually and prepares students for future success.

“We are blessed to have so many wonderful Catholic schools in the Diocese of Buffalo,” said Bishop Edward U. Kmiec.  “Catholic Schools Week is an opportunity to showcase our Catholic schools where qualified, dedicated teachers help to provide intellectual, spiritual, physical and social development, leading our students to become high achievers and individuals who understand the need for community service.”

Across the diocese, Catholic schools will observe the week with special Masses, community service projects, academic and artistic showcases, and athletic and family events.
