Father of four named pastor of Genesee County parishes

Bishop Edward U. Kmiec, bishop of Buffalo, has announced the appointment of a new pastor and a new parochial vicar at parishes in the diocese.

In December, Immaculate Conception Parish, East Bethany, and St. Mary Parish, Pavilion, both received a new pastor, Father Richard J. Cilano.  It was announced on October 14 that these parishes would merge and share a pastor.  Father Cilano replaces Father Eugene S. Slomba at Immaculate Conception and Msgr. Leo McCarthy at St. Mary’s.

Father Cilano entered the seminary after marrying and raising four children with his wife of 30 years, Mary Agnes. A few years after his wife passed away, Father Cilano entered Christ the King Seminary, East Aurora; he was ordained to the priesthood in 2005.  Since his ordination, he has served as parochial vicar at Nativity of Our Lord Parish, Orchard Park.

At Nativity of Our Lord, Father Mark J. Noonan has taken the position vacated by Father Cilano.  Ordained on December 1, this assignment as parochial vicar is Father Noonan’s first as a priest.

Father Noonan graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo and attended Cleveland Marshall Law School.  He graduated from Pontifical Angelicum in Rome, Italy, and Christ the King Seminary.
