Foundation awards grant for leadership program
The
John R. Oishei Foundation has authorized a grant of
$20,000 to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo to support the design of a
Leadership Competencies Program.
In a letter to Bishop Edward U. Kmiec,
Robert D. Gioia, president of the Foundation said,
“The directors were impressed with the opportunity to create a thoroughly
designed program that will develop strong educational leaders as the foundation
for quality Catholic education.”
The Leadership Competencies Program will be operated
through the diocesan Department of Catholic Education. “The program design,”
noted Carol Kostyniak, secretary for Catholic education,
“will focus on further strengthening the increasingly diverse skills required
of extraordinary school leaders in the 21st century.”
Funding will be used to hire a program designer who will
have the responsibility to design leadership training utilizing innovative
delivery formats as required by volunteer, staff and managerial staff to
incorporate personal, interpersonal, managerial and organizational skill
sets. It is expected that this
individual will seek out and nurture community collaborations to achieve these
goals in a cost-effective and sustainable manner. The ultimate goal is to
deepen the pool of outstanding leaders available to Catholic elementary schools
and to the community, providing succession planning and sustainability to
Catholic educational leadership.
“We are constantly seeking new ways to enhance the skills
of our leaders,” said Bishop Kmiec, bishop of
