St. Mark’s student diagnosed with MRSA

A student at St. Mark’s Catholic elementary school in North Buffalo has been diagnosed with MRSA (Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus).  School officials learned of the diagnosis this morning.  The student is currently receiving treatment and the situation will continue to be monitored very closely.

School staff was notified today and a letter to parents and guardians of St. Mark’s families was sent home with students Tuesday afternoon.  They were also provided with detailed information on MRSA and how to prevent its spread.  The Erie County Health Department has been contacted.

According to Sister Jeanne Eberle, SSJ, principal of St. Mark’s School, “Our school has instituted measures to help prevent the spread of germs and MRSA. The school is being thoroughly cleaned and all areas of the school will be regularly cleaned with a disinfectant that is effective against MRSA.”
