Applications
A man who feels called to the Order of Deacon should discuss this matter with his pastor.
They should meet together on a regular basis over several months to discern the movement of
the Holy Spirit in the candidate's life. Such a person should be involved in a variety of ministries in
the parish and in the community. If upon recommendation of the pastor it is discerned that a
vocation to the Diaconate may be present, he should begin the formal application process.
The application process begins with a general meeting of interested aspirants and their
wives. Usually, held during the summer at Christ the King Seminary, members of the Diaconate
Formation team will discuss the application and formation process. Candidates currently in
formation will be available to talk about their experience and to answer your questions.
If after attending the general information meeting you wish to complete and file an
application, applications will be made available. A deadline is indicated on the application
and must be sent to the Office of the Permanent Diaconate, Catholic Center, 795 Main Street,
Buffalo, NY, 14203.
Aspirants completing the application process will be required to secure a letter of
support from both their wife and their pastor. In addition, the formation team will conduct
individual interviews and a battery of psychological tests will be administered.
Questions concerning the general meeting or the application process should be directed to
the Office of the Permanent Diaconate at 716-847-5542.
