| Formation
Formation is a period of time that a candidate spends learning and discerning his call.
Candidates and their wives will join a supportive and prayerful community of believers who,
together in union, build up the body of Christ.
The formation process will take five years. The first year is a time of application and
introductory classes. The following four years are held at Christ the King Seminary in East
Aurora, New York on the first full weekend of the month starting in September and concluding
with our annual retreat in June. Beginning the weekend with prayer, candidates and their
wives are enrolled in a variety of classes that will deepen both their faith and
spirituality.
Wives are required to be present on Saturday afternoon and evening. They are also
encouraged to be present for as much of the formation weekend as possible.
Candidates will also enroll in a variety of classes through the Certificate Program in
Pastoral Ministry at Christ the King Seminary. Each class generally meets once a week for
ten weeks. A total of 10 classes are required for the Certificate Program.
Candidates will also be expected to pray the Divine Office, which includes Morning and
Evening Prayer, and also Night Prayer when possible.
