Ken

My name is Ken; I am volunteering my time at Catholic Charities Fulton Office by the Perry Projects. On Tuesdays I work at the Lackawanna food pantry and in the beginning of the month I head down to Chautauqua County. My activities that I perform at Catholic Charities include performing client interviews, distributing food to clients, budget assistance/debt relief to some clients that are in need of such services, check book balancing to the elderly down in Chautauqua County, picking up and moving furniture, making house calls, organizing a client to get his real estate business in full swing and tutoring a client in math who is taking a class at ECC. As you can tell, it is not monotonous and it has been a blast to work for Catholic Charities. The trick is you need to be positive and full of enthusiasm because the clients that we serve have a hard time flashing a smile.

Here’s a little background on me. I graduated from Canisius College back in May majoring in finance. I am from a town called Scotia, 20 miles northwest of Albany, New York; hence I am the local lad of the group. I have an older brother Mike, 24, married with a son, Drake (Happy Birthday to him on October 3rd when he turns 1!). After being at Canisius for four years and my time with the DSC, Buffalo is my true home. What motivated me to participate in the Diocesan Service Corps was the Habitat for Humanity Appalachia Spring Break trip to Kentucky sponsored by Canisius College last spring. My week down in Kentucky gave me a sense of joy to volunteer my time because with volunteering you receive more in return than the work you actually do. I had the motivation to do more volunteer work and it is great to have that opportunity in the city of Buffalo. My hobbies include running, listening to rock music (the Who and the Rolling Stones are my kind of bands), going to open mic poetry clubs, researching anti-sweatshop material, reading a good book and playing darts. Cricket anybody?
