Early Morning Inquiry Sessions Held at the Cathedral

St. Joseph Cathedral, 50 Franklin Street, is offering hour-long informal Inquiry Sessions on Wednesday mornings at 7:30 AM for people who may be thinking of becoming a Catholic or needing preparation to complete their sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist.

The sessions are designed for people who work in the Buffalo metropolitan  area and/or are unable to attend evening sessions held at a neighboring parish. Questions about the Catholic Faith or what it would be like to be a full member of the Catholic Church are explored.  The open inquiry sessions are part of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) which helps individuals gently move through a process toward full initiation into the Catholic Faith. There is no commitment or obligation involved in attending the sessions.  For further information call the Cathedral at 854-5855.

Team Workshops tailored to your team's needs

The Diocesan Office of Worship and Catechumenate will come to any parish Catechumenate (no charge) to do an evening for RCIA teams on the vision of the Rite specifically tailored for your team's needs.

A great way to focus your team on the vibrant energy and spirit the Rite so freely offers! For more information call the office, 847-5546.

FOCUS ON INITIATION: “CONCERNING THE BAPTIZED”

is coming to the Diocese of Buffalo, New York! - (April 25-27, 2002)

(Co-sponsored with The North American Forum on the Catechumenate)

Have any of these questions arisen in your parish:

  ·       Is it appropriate to adapt the initiation process for the baptized; and are there inappropriate adaptations?

 ·        How do we distinguish between catechumens and candidates-liturgically?

·        How do we truly respect a person’s baptism?

·        Are there ecumenical issues involved in this?

·        What are appropriate liturgies with the baptized; and how do we prepare them?

This institute will explore the underlying vision for journeying with baptized adults who seek to complete their initiation and/or to be received into full communion of the Catholic Church.  This institute, using Part II: Chapters Four and Five of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults as foundational, will help participants to clarify the distinct theological and pastoral realities of the baptized.

Among the issues explored will be an understanding of and appreciation for Baptism; an approach to discerning the suitable path to the Eucharistic Table; appropriate preparation and celebration with the baptized catechized adult; and appropriate liturgical, catechetical and pastoral formation of the baptized uncatechized adult.
