Coordinator for Faith Formation (Grades 1-10)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Coordinator of Faith Formation Gr. 1 – 10 administrates (designs, develops, directs and evaluates) a total parish catechetical program and provides leadership to assist a parish community in building a solid foundation for adult spirituality, sacrament preparation, Christian living, ministry and outreach. In 2021 the Program transitioned to an on-line program utilizing the FORMED program. This program is supplemented by various grade level in person activities as well as a program geared toward learning for each specific grade level.

POSITION CONTENT/JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Designs catechetical programs which support lifelong learning and conform to the National Catechetical Directory, the Buffalo Diocese, parish needs and contemporary culture

-Must take the Virtus Training (Protecting God’s Children Course) and then remain current with monthly training bulletins.
-Conducts needs assessments in the parish
-Integrates insights from current catechetical literature into program planning
-Develops goals, objectives and strategies for the total religious education program
-Articulates a vision/direction for the parish catechetical program
-Pursues further education and professional development
-Administer Parish Faith Formation Program
-Lead, support, instruct, recruit, and train all Catechists & helpers
-Facilitate and manage the Religious Education portion of Virtus (PGC protecting God’s Children). Code of Conduct, background checks, volunteer agreements.
-Have a leadership presence at all workshops, seminars, training sessions, parent meetings, retreats, etc.
-Sevelops a coordinated approach toward total parish education & faith development through catechesis on all levels.
-Is in consultation with the Parochial School Religion Teacher(s) to coordinate preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation
-Designs catechetical programs which meet the needs of the parish community
-Recruits/hires, trains, supervises and evaluates catechists and support staff
-Maintains relationship with pastor and other parish staff members
-Develops individualized programs for parishioners with special religious education needs
-Directs the implementation and on-going management of the parish religious education program Grades 1 thru 10
-Coordinates the OCIA Program and works with the parish OCIA leadership team and prepares Children in the Catechumenate.
-Identifies and enables leadership within the community for program components
-Adjusts program components (space, time, materials and human and physical resources as needed)
-Develop, monitor and work within budget as established with parish business manager
-Obtain resources (books, library, textbooks, liturgy materials) to run program
-Secure spaces in the parish calendar for all classes and programs on campus
-Coordinate Liturgical/sacramental functions and varied prayer experiences
-Run retreats, parent meetings, and seminars
-Effectively communicate with participants, parents, and parish at large
evaluates the religious education programs of the total parish in relation to goals,
objectives, and strategies.
-Conduct program evaluation at all levels
-Collates evaluation information and give feedback
-Adjust religious education programs in relation to parish feed back
-Meet with coordinators of programs/classes to elicit further information regarding
evaluation and future planning

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
A. Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities (SKAs)
The Coordinator of Religious Education is expected to have capabilities in
-Theology
-Program Development
-Catechist Development
-Education
-Communication and Relationship
-Administration and Management
-Must have reliable transportation for attending Workshops, Seminars, Retreats, Diocesan Meetings, etc.
-Must have good working knowledge of general office skills.
-Must have excellent computer & word processing skills.
-Must have good organizational skills.
-Must have ability to meet deadlines.
-Must have ability to honor and maintain confidentiality in all matters.
-Must have ability to perform outlined tasks.

B. Education, Training and/or Experience
If there is a Director of Religious Education they are expected to have one of the following:
-MA in Theology/Religious Education or a related theological field and six credits or 60 clock hours of in-service in: administration, educational methods, supervision, Catechetics.
-MA in education or educational administration with 24 semester credits in Theology & Catechetics.

The Coordinator of Faith Formation Gr 1 – 10 is expected to have a minimum of three years teaching experience in a Catholic School or equivalent and at least one year of paid administrative experience. The Parish CRE Gr 1 – 10 is a position that entails some evening and weekend work.
