Brief Job Description: St. Katharine Drexel in Buffalo’s Lovejoy neighborhood has the position of organist available. St. Katharine’s is a part of the Greater East Buffalo Family of Parishes, is known for their congregational participation, and has about 75-85 parishioners who regularly attend our one Sunday Mass at 10:30am. The position averages four hours per week, three for planning and practice and one hour for Sunday Liturgy. The usual compliment of Easter, Christmas and Holy Day liturgies is presumed as well as some agreed upon special occasions.
Qualifications: Required Education/Experience:
• Bachelors Degree and experience playing in liturgical settings
• Must be able to simultaneously play and cantor
• Familiarity with Catholic liturgy, hymnody, and tradition
• Must be able to play organ and piano
Desired Skills:
• Ability to work with others and open to new thoughts, suggestions, and ideas
• Organist should be able to lead the congregation in singing so as to foster active participation
