Brief Job Description: The Parish Business Manager (PBM) is responsible for the day-to-day financial and operating activities of Saints Peter & Paul Parish (SSPP). The PBM also has financial oversight for St. John the Baptist Parish in Boston, NY. Above all, the BPM supports the mission of SSPP Parish, a large, vibrant congregation with many ministries; some headed by paid staff and some headed by volunteers. Facilities include a large church, school, outreach center, Parish center, cemetery and rectory which also serves as the business office for the Parish. The PBM reports to the pastor of Family 28.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• The PBM, in consultation with others, develops annual revenue & expense budgets for Parish operations, SSPP school, SSPP Cemetery, SSPP religious education and SSPP Parish outreach.
• The BPM is responsible for day-to day financial activity, where appropriate operational activity and prepares reports for results against plan.
• The PBM has Human Resources responsibility for all Parish and school employees including payroll processing, maintaining and updating the parish handbook, assisting employees with HR issues including health insurance and retirement choices, vacation scheduling, disability, FMLA, workman’s compensation etc. The BPM handles reporting requirements for various governmental authorities.
• The business office staff, and maintenance staff report to the PBM.
• The PBM is expected to engage with the Parish finance council at monthly evening meetings preparing financial reports for review at those meetings.
• In all these responsibilities, the PBM must follow all established practices of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo and the laws of government entities.

Qualifications: Required Education/Experience:
• The successful candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree; preferably in a business concentration.
• The successful candidate should have prior experience managing the financial affairs of a for-profit business or a not-for-profit organization.

Desired Skills:
• The successful candidate should have the ability to analyze trends, make improvement recommendations and explain variances from budgets.
• The successful candidate should possess appropriate interpersonal skills to effectively manage direct reports and to work with others including: SSPP School Principal and school employees, SSPP Faith Formation Director, SSPP Outreach Director, SSPP Director of Music Ministry, clergy, volunteers including parish trustees, finance council members, pastoral council members and to work with the staff at Diocesan headquarters.
• Prior experience managing people is preferred.
• This position offers the potential for career growth for the successful candidate. In the future, Family 28 which includes SSPP and St. John the Baptist Parishes as well as Nativity Parish in Orchard Park and St. Bernadette Parish in Orchard Park, will initiate a Family Business Manager role.

Salary: $70,000 negotiable
