Update on list of priests with substantiated allegations of child sexual abuse

Both Rev. Fabian J. Maryanski and Rev. Mark J. Wolski have now been added to the Diocese of Buffalo website "List of priests with substantiated allegations of child sexual abuse." Moving forward, when a priest is determined to have substantiated allegations against him, his name will immediately go on the List.
Father Sajdak returned to active ministry

On December 20, 2018, the independent Diocesan Review Board met and carefully considered the report of Investigator Scott F. Riordan who was asked to investigate an allegation of clerical sexual abuse of a minor against Father Ronald P. Sajdak of the Diocese of Buffalo.

Diocese releases new list of priests

On Nov. 5, 2018, the Diocese of Buffalo released another list of priests with substantiated claims of sexual abuse of a minor. This is in addition to the original list published in March 2018. Priests who received a single allegation after their death are not included. Death dates for diocesan priests are in parenthesis.

Father Smith and Father Venne placed on administrative leave

After receiving an abuse complaint against Father Arthur S. Smith, of Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta Parish in Depew, Bishop Richard J. Malone has placed Father Smith on administrative leave as an investigation continues. Bishop Malone has also placed Father Samuel J. Venne on administrative leave after receiving an abuse complaint. Father Venne is a retired priest serving at St. Stephen's Parish on Grand Island.

This list also includes deceased priests with more than one allegation made against them. The year of death is listed next to those who are deceased.
Diocese announces Compensation Program for victims of sexual abuse

Bishop Richard J. Malone has announced the establishment of a voluntary Independent Reconciliation and Compensation Program (IRCP) for those who have made claims that they were sexually abused as a child by a member of the clergy in the Diocese of Buffalo. Individuals who have previously made claims will be contacted and invited to participate in this voluntary program offering monetary settlements.
