The patrons of World Youth Day 2023 have been announced, and are Catholic figures who in their youth took decisive steps on the path to holiness:
- Santos Francisco and Jacinta Marto (Shepherds of Fatima)
- Blessed Mary of the Divine Heart (Sister of the Good Shepherd and Messenger of the Sacred Heart of Jesus)
- Blessed Alexandrina de Balazar (Salesian Cooperator and Messenger of the Immaculate Heart of Mary
World Youth Day Themes Announced
According to the Vatican, the themes chosen by the pope for the World Youth Day celebrations were:
For 2020: “Young man, I tell you, arise!” (Lk 7:14)
For 2021: “Arise! I have appointed you as a witness of what you have seen.” (Acts 26:16)
For 2022: “Mary arose and went with haste.” (Lk 1:39)
